What we test for.

Every assessment is tailored to your specific questions. Dr. Roberts selects the right battery of tests based on what you need to know - not a one-size-fits-all checklist.

01

ADHD (Children & Adults)

Comprehensive attention and executive function testing that goes beyond a screening questionnaire. Distinguishes ADHD from anxiety, depression, and sleep disorders that can look identical on the surface.

Schedule Testing
02

Autism Spectrum

Thorough autism spectrum assessments using gold-standard instruments. Especially important for women and adults who were missed in childhood - presentations can look very different from textbook descriptions.

Schedule Testing
03

Learning Disabilities

Identifies specific learning disabilities in reading (dyslexia), math (dyscalculia), and writing (dysgraphia). Provides the documentation needed for school accommodations, IEPs, and 504 plans.

Schedule Testing
04

Giftedness & Twice-Exceptional

Gifted children with a co-occurring learning disability or ADHD are often missed entirely - the strengths mask the struggles. We identify both so the right supports get put in place.

Schedule Testing
05

Intellectual Functioning

Full-scale IQ and cognitive ability assessments for academic planning, disability documentation, or understanding cognitive strengths and weaknesses across verbal, spatial, working memory, and processing speed domains.

Schedule Testing
06

Psychoeducational Assessments

Combined cognitive and academic testing that connects how a student thinks with how they perform. Essential for identifying the gap between ability and achievement that drives accommodation decisions.

Schedule Testing
From referral to report

How testing works.

Four steps from your first call to a comprehensive written report you can use for treatment, accommodations, and planning.

1.

Referral or self-referral.

You don't need a referral. Call us directly or ask your provider to refer. We'll discuss what you're hoping to learn and confirm that testing is the right next step.

2.

Testing day.

A comprehensive battery of assessments selected for your specific questions. Typically 4-6 hours, split across 1-2 visits. We build in breaks and adjust for age and endurance.

3.

Feedback session.

Dr. Roberts walks you through results, diagnosis (if applicable), and specific recommendations. This isn't a data dump - it's a conversation about what the results mean for your life.

4.

Written report.

A detailed report you can share with schools, employers, other providers, or keep for your records. Includes background, test results with interpretation, diagnostic impressions, and actionable recommendations.

In-house testing

No referral out. No runaround.

Most practices refer testing out. We do it here.

At Ascend, psychological testing happens in-house - same building, same team, same chart. That means your therapist, your psychiatrist, and your psychologist can coordinate directly without you playing phone tag between three different offices. It also means your testing results inform your treatment plan in real time, not after a 6-week wait for an outside report.

Diagnostic clarification for children and teens often pairs with child and adolescent psychiatry for medication management when indicated, so the testing report and the prescribing decision happen on one care team.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions.

How long does testing take?

Most comprehensive assessments take 4-6 hours of testing time, split across 1-2 visits depending on the patient's age and endurance. Younger children may need more breaks and shorter sessions. Dr. Roberts structures the day to keep the patient comfortable and engaged throughout.

Is psychological testing covered by insurance?

Some plans cover psychological testing with a referral. We verify your benefits before scheduling so there are no surprises. If your plan doesn't cover testing or you're out-of-network, we provide superbills for reimbursement and can discuss payment options.

Can adults be tested for ADHD?

Absolutely. Adult ADHD is significantly underdiagnosed - especially in women and high-achieving individuals who developed compensatory strategies that masked the condition for years. A proper assessment can clarify years of questions about focus, executive function, and productivity.

What's included in the written report?

Background history, test results with interpretation, diagnostic impressions, and specific recommendations for treatment, accommodations, or next steps. The report is a comprehensive document you can share with schools (for IEPs and 504 plans), employers (for workplace accommodations), other providers, or keep for your records.

What's the difference between psychological and psychoeducational testing?

Psychological testing evaluates cognitive, emotional, and behavioral functioning broadly - it can address questions about ADHD, autism, mood disorders, personality, and more. Psychoeducational testing specifically focuses on learning and academic performance - connecting cognitive ability with achievement to identify learning disabilities. We offer both, and Dr. Roberts will recommend the right battery based on your referral questions.
