Common questions

New patient FAQs.

How quickly can I get a first appointment?+

Same-day / next-day appointments are available. Same-day appointments are regularly offered for primary care. Psychiatry and therapy schedules depend on provider availability and whether you choose in-person or telehealth.

Do I need a referral to see a psychiatrist?+

No. You do not need a referral to schedule psychiatric services at Ascend Mind and Body. You can book directly by calling our office. Some insurance plans may require a referral for coverage - check with your carrier if you’re unsure.

Can I do my first visit via telehealth?+

Yes, for psychiatry and therapy. Telehealth appointments are available to anyone located in Florida at the time of the visit. Primary care requires an in-person visit at our Wesley Chapel or Tampa offices.

What if I don’t have insurance?+

We welcome self-pay patients and accept HSA and FSA. For out-of-network plans, we provide superbills for reimbursement. Call a care coordinator at (813) 670-3331 for self-pay rates.

Can I see multiple providers at Ascend?+

Yes - that’s one of the main reasons patients choose Ascend. You can see a primary care physician, a psychiatric prescriber, and a therapist all within the same practice. Your providers share one chart and coordinate your care directly.

Do you see children and adolescents?+

Child and adolescent psychiatry is available for ages 5-17. Most other service lines are adult-focused; call to check availability for a specific service. Patients under 18 must have a legal guardian present for their first visit.
