Conditions We Treat in Ages 5-17

Our scope covers the conditions that drive the majority of first calls from Tampa families. For acute safety concerns or specialized inpatient needs, we coordinate referrals to the right next step.

ADHD and attention

School-age and teen ADHD evaluation, with stimulant and non-stimulant options. School accommodation coordination when helpful.

Anxiety

Generalized anxiety, separation anxiety, social anxiety, panic. Evidence-based plans built around what is actually getting in the way.

Depression in teens

Adolescent depression often shows up as irritability, withdrawal, school avoidance, and sleep change. Careful evaluation and steady follow-up.

School refusal

When the school day has become a daily battle, we look for what is underneath it: anxiety, learning differences, sleep, or mood.

Mood concerns

Adolescent mood swings and bipolar spectrum evaluation. Careful, gradual medication management with the same provider every visit.

Trauma and adjustment

Children and teens who have lived through loss, separation, medical events, or adverse experiences. Trauma-informed and coordinated with therapy.

How it works

What a First Visit Looks Like

  1. Call or request a callback

A quick phone screen with our team. We hear what is going on with your kid, answer questions, and get the right visit on the calendar.

  2. Insurance verified, visit booked

We verify your benefits before the first visit so there are no billing surprises. Same-week availability for new families.

  3. 60-minute first visit, family in the room

A real conversation about school, sleep, friendships, and what has been tried already. You leave with a plain-language plan and a follow-up scheduled.

Combined care

Combined Therapy and Psychiatry

For many teens, the right plan blends therapy with medication management. At Ascend, the two teams actually communicate. Our therapy clinicians work alongside our PMHNP, so your kid is not stuck with two disconnected plans from two providers who never speak.

Continuity matters with children and teens. Your family is matched with one provider and stays with that provider through evaluation, treatment planning, and follow-up.

If a child needs a more structured diagnostic answer, we coordinate with our diagnostic evaluations team to get clarity before treatment is locked in.
